The Department of Human Services for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is dedicated to supporting agencies in maintaining the highest standards of health and safety. As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will work in collaboration with multiple state agencies, playing a critical role in ensuring a safe work environment for employees across the Commonwealth. This position, based in Harrisburg, offers a hybrid work arrangement and is on a contract through Abel Personnel, providing you with an excellent opportunity to make an impact while working with a well-established client on behalf of the State of Pennsylvania.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and Coach: Manage two safety professionals across the Commonwealth, ensuring they meet agency needs by guiding the team and providing coaching as needed.
- Plan and Organize: Coordinate service requests to achieve target dates and production goals using agency action plans.
- Deliver Training: Develop and present health and safety training programs, adapting content as needed and delivering it either in person or via webinars.
- Conduct Assessments: Perform hazard assessments, inspections, and incident investigations to comply with the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) and agency policies.
- Analyze and Report: Generate reports to analyze injury data and trends, recommending corrective actions where necessary.
- Provide Safety Support: Assist with injury/illness prevention, industrial hygiene practices, and ensure AIPP compliance.
- Work Independently: Offer on-site safety support, conduct technical research, and share knowledge with staff.
- Collaborate and Adapt: Build strong relationships across various levels, adapting to client needs to foster a culture of safety.
- Travel: Expect up to 30% travel, including periodic overnight stays.
You’re Probably a Match if You Have:
- Education & Experience: At least 2 years experience in health and safety for apprentice level(Lower end on salary scale), or B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field, or a B.S. in any field with a PA L&I BWC AIPP Qualification for second level (For Higher end on Salary).
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and strong verbal, written, and assessment skills.
- Personal Qualities: Flexibility, a customer-focused mindset, and a commitment to advancing safety standards.
