Safety Consultant

Abel Personnel is seeking a dedicated Safety Consultant to support the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). This role is instrumental in championing a robust safety culture and ensuring the well-being of Commonwealth employees through expert training, data analysis, and on-site compliance support.

As a hybrid role, this position offers the flexibility of telework alongside essential face-to-face collaboration at PennDOT offices and worksites. This is a prime opportunity for a relationship-driven safety professional to influence agency-wide standards and drive the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) forward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management: Utilize the PennDOT action plan to establish project timelines, assign responsibilities, and meticulously track completion of safety initiatives.
  • Training & Development: Create and deliver high-impact health and safety training. You will adapt existing materials or develop fresh content for both in-person sessions and webinars, tailored to the specific needs of agency personnel.
  • Audits & Compliance: Conduct comprehensive assessments and audits in strict accordance with the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) and agency policy.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze injury data and trends to prepare technical reports. You will provide actionable recommendations and assist in implementing corrective actions to mitigate future risks.
  • Safety Support: Provide expert guidance on industrial hygiene and AIPP compliance. You will work independently to provide on-site support, building strong professional relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
Qualifications for Success
To excel in this role, you must possess a blend of technical safety expertise and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • AIPP Qualification: Must meet the Commonwealth of PA Bureau of Workers' Compensation requirements for an "Accident & Illness Prevention Professional."
  • Professional Experience: At least two years of dedicated occupational safety experience.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) for reporting and presentation development.
  • Communication: Proven ability to build relationships through excellent customer service, follow-up, and the ability to influence safety culture at both the management and field levels.
  • Independence & Flexibility: Ability to work autonomously and adapt quickly to evolving client needs and site-specific requirements.
Location and Travel Requirements
  • Hybrid Schedule: A blend of telework, two days per week at a PennDOT office, and periodic visits to various worksites.
  • Geography: Candidates can be located anywhere within Pennsylvania, though please note that office locations are not available in the Montoursville area.
  • Travel: Reliable personal transportation is required. Regular travel to Harrisburg and other assigned worksites is an essential component of this role.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range: $48,000 – $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
  • Paid Time Off: Comprehensive PTO and benefits package included.
