Overview
Abel Personnel is hiring on behalf of our client for a Software Systems Engineer to support the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program in Colorado Springs, Colorado or Huntsville, Alabama.
This position plays a key role in the software development lifecycle for mission-critical defense systems — performing design, integration, testing, and systems engineering tasks to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performance command and control software. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of systems engineering and software development expertise within Agile or DevSecOps environments supporting Department of Defense programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support software systems engineering for the design, development, testing, and deployment of C2BMC system software.
  • Perform requirements decomposition from system to software level in collaboration with the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) organization.
  • Contribute to software design and documentation, including algorithm design documents, functional design documents, and interface definitions.
  • Participate in Agile Scrum teams, supporting sprint planning, backlog refinement, and continuous integration activities.
  • Assist with external interface development, system use cases, concept of operations (CONOPS), and operational sequences.
  • Conduct analysis, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for complex software and system issues.
  • Contribute to software integration and automated testing, including the creation and maintenance of test scripts.
  • Develop and maintain build management pipelines and tools that support continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (systems engineers, developers, testers, and cyber professionals) across multiple sites.
  • Author or assist with technical proposals, trade studies, and design evaluations.

Required Qualifications
  • Active Secret clearance (must be current and in good standing).
  • IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SSCP, CISSP).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in software development for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms.
  • Familiarity with automated testing, DevOps pipelines, and configuration management tools.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, multi-site software development and integration efforts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting C2BMC or Missile Defense System (MDS) programs.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and tools such as CAMEO.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing, containerization, and virtualization technologies.
  • Background in Space or Missile Defense mission areas.
  • Experience developing command and control or weapon systems software.
  • Experience performing trade studies, Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), and system design evaluations.
  • Familiarity with performance modeling and automated testing frameworks.

Why Apply
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a global missile defense program that safeguards U.S. and allied forces. As part of a high-performing technical team, you’ll be immersed in cutting-edge technologies, DevSecOps practices, and systems architecture for some of the most sophisticated defense systems in operation today.
