Overview
Abel Personnel is hiring on behalf of our client for a Digital Forensics Engineer IV to support high-visibility criminal and cyber investigations in a secure, mission-critical environment.
The role focuses on performing detailed forensic examinations of electronic devices, recovering digital evidence, and supporting investigations through expert reporting and analysis. This senior-level forensic examiner will work with a wide range of tools, technologies, and data types to support sensitive federal and DoD investigative missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive digital forensic analysis on computers, mobile devices, storage media, and other electronic systems.
- Perform evidence recovery, including deleted, fragmented, corrupted, or concealed data.
- Utilize industry-leading forensic tools to extract, analyze, and preserve digital information.
- Produce detailed forensic reports documenting findings, methodologies, and evidence handling.
- Support criminal or cyber investigations by identifying relevant artifacts, timelines, and indicators.
- Maintain strict chain-of-custody procedures and evidence integrity throughout the examination process.
- Recover and analyze email data, file systems, databases, and encrypted materials.
- Collaborate with investigators and analysts to interpret digital evidence and support case objectives.
- May provide expert testimony in federal or military courts as required.
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI-eligible clearance (must be current).
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of digital forensics experience, or Master’s degree with 6+ years.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on digital forensic examination across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS environments.
- Experience supporting criminal, cyber, or federal investigations.
- Proficiency with industry-standard forensic tools, including:
- EnCase, FTK, X-Ways, Magnet Axiom
- Cellebrite or other mobile forensics suites
- Experience writing clear, defensible technical forensic reports.
- Knowledge of network protocols, virtual environments, and forensic acquisition methods.
Certification Requirements
Candidates must possess at least one of the following:
- DMC, DFE, CCI
- IACIS CCE or CFCE
- GIAC GCFE
- EnCE, X-PERT, MCFE
- CCME, XRY, OFCE
- CyberSec First Responder (CFR)
- Other recognized digital forensics or device acquisition certifications

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with complex investigations, national security cases, or DoD forensic environments.
- Familiarity with encrypted file systems, cloud acquisition, or advanced recovery techniques.
- Understanding of virtual machines, cloud storage, or enterprise network ecosystems.
