Overview
Abel Personnel is hiring on behalf of our client for a Network Engineer III to support the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to one of the most critical defense systems in the nation—enabling missile defense planning, coordination, and execution across the globe. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, integrating, and testing secure, complex network infrastructures and ensuring operational readiness across multiple worldwide sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary network engineer supporting the design, deployment, and integration of C2BMC network systems.
- Plan, install, and test network infrastructure upgrades at operational and remote sites.
- Conduct network troubleshooting and performance analysis to ensure optimal system functionality.
- Travel to domestic and international locations (including Schriever Space Force Base, Alaska, Guam, and Europe) to perform installations, maintenance, and system validation.
- Provide technical status updates and reports to program management and leadership.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary engineering team to support system configuration, optimization, and security compliance.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and network schematics using Microsoft Visio and other design tools.
Required Qualifications
- Active Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred).
- IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SSCP, CISSP, or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline, with 5+ years of professional experience (or 3+ years with a related Master’s degree).
- Hands-on experience with network design, development, and testing methodologies.
- Strong understanding of the OSI model, TCP/IP, BGP, and OSPF routing protocols.
- Experience in network traffic analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of firewall technologies, including Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.
- Familiarity with multicast, VLANs, GRE tunnels, SONET, and MSPP architectures.
- Proficiency in multi-vendor network equipment, including Cisco and Juniper switches and routers, TACLANEs, WAN optimizers, and optical transport equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create technical documentation and present effectively using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DoD or Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs.
- Knowledge of C2BMC architecture and integration environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity compliance and network accreditation processes under DoD standards.
- Strong collaborative mindset; thrives in team-oriented, Agile environments.

The C2BMC (Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications) program is the integrating element of the Missile Defense System (MDS). It enables the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders to plan and execute missile defense operations globally. C2BMC synchronizes networked sensors and weapons systems, providing layered defense capabilities that adapt to evolving threats—serving as a force multiplier across all phases of flight and operational environments.
